In line with health and safety (H&S) guidance, our school approach on the wearing of earrings/jewellery/hair in school is as follows.
On days when the children have P.E. / attend school in P.E. kit:
- Earrings must be removed.
- School are not permitted to tape over earrings for P.E. lessons – earrings must be removed. We strongly recommend that children leave their earrings at home on P.E. days.
- If parents/carers forget to leave earrings at home, the children will be asked to remove them (as staff are not allowed to remove earrings). School will not be responsible if earrings go missing.
- Long hair (below shoulder length) must be tied back in a hair bobble.
- Watches and decorative headbands will need to be removed for all PE lessons.
- Smart watches / Fit Bits are not permitted in school. This is due to the distraction they can cause during learning time.
- Nail varnish is not permitted in school.
On all other school days including non-uniform days:
- Children should only be wearing 1 small stud earring in each ear – no hoops or dangly earrings. We strongly recommend that earrings of any value are not worn in school.
- No other jewellery around necks or wrist should be worn.
- Long hair (below shoulder length) must be tied back in a hair bobble.
- Nail varnish is not permitted in school.
- Smart watches / Fit Bits are not permitted in school. This is due to the distraction they can cause during learning time.
Parents/Carers should to contact the Headteacher if they want to request an amendment to the uniform policy in relation to their protected characteristics.
